Rhinoplasty

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job surgery, nose reshaping surgery, is one of the most common cosmetic plastic surgeries performed worldwide. It is a procedure that alters the appearance and thereby improves the function of the nose. Rhinoplasty may be performed to enhance breathing, change the look of the nose, or both.

Changes are done to the nose, nasal cartilages, and nasal bone during this treatment to make the nose appear more refined and visually better appearing. It is a type of plastic surgery used to change the size or form of the nose.

Why is it done?

Rhinoplasty, a nose job surgery, is performed for medical reasons, such as to repair breathing problems caused by a cleft palate or to correct disfigurement caused by trauma or congenital deformities. It can also be done for cosmetic purposes, altering the contour and appearance of the nose. The rhinoplasty treatment can be performed under general anaesthesia or local anaesthesia, with you sedated throughout.

Is Rhinoplasty an easy procedure?

No. Rhinoplasty is a difficult procedure. This is because of several things. The nose, for starters, is a complex 3D form in the center of the face. The alterations made during rhinoplasty are frequently minor. However, these alterations can have a significant impact on how the nose looks and operates. The margin for error is tiny because these changes are minor.

Rhinoplasty - Step by step procedure

A nose job is normally performed as an outpatient procedure, which means there is no need to remain overnight. The patient will be sedated with either general or local anaesthetic. The nose will be numbed with a local anaesthetic, so the patient will be relaxed and unable to feel the pain.

The surgeon makes cuts inside the nostrils during the procedure. The surgeon may additionally make cuts across the base of the nose in more challenging cases. The interior bone and cartilage are then reshaped to provide the patient a more attractive appearance.

Things to keep in mind after Rhinoplasty

- For at least two weeks, avoid heavy exercise.

- For the next three weeks, no heavy lifting is permitted.
